History

Initially in 1956, Bureau of Education was established at Federal level and in 1964, Education Extension Centre was established in Abbottabad. After that in 1970, Bureau of Curriculum Development came in to being in Peshawar but it was shifted to Abbottabad 1974. Its status was revised to “Bureau of Curriculum Development and Education Extension Services, N-W.F.P, Abbottabad. In 2001, again its nomenclature was changed to “Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education (DCTE), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Abbottabad”.

Role of DCTE in Post 18th Amendment Scenario

After 18th Constitutional Amendment powers were delegated to the province to review/develop their own curriculum. In this regard, Curriculum and all related activities were entrusted to the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Directorate of Curriculum and Teacher Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is competent Authority in pursuance of “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Supervision of Curricula, Textbooks and Maintenance of Standard of Education Act 2011” hence, mandate of DCTE is to:

  • Development, revision and approval of  Curriculum and scheme of studies for Grade

Pre I-XII

  • Review and approval of textbooks from Grades Pre I-XII
  • Review and approval of supplementary reading materials, training manuals and teaching learning material.
  • Maintenance of standard for education
